Hamdam Zakirov |
Poet Hamdam Zakirov (b. 1966) is a member of the Uzbekistan's Fergana school which combines Islamic, Central-European and Chinese traditions with the very latest Western Postmodernism. Zakirov has studied at the Naval Technical Academy in St Petersburg and at the universities of Tashkent and Fergana. He has worked as a literary expert at the Fergana theatre and local history museum, and as a reporter for the Moscow periodicals "1 September" and "Kinotsenaryi" (Pictorial magazine of the Cinematographical Association). His most recent work, published in St Petersburg, was the book of verse entitled Fergana (1996). Zakirov's poems have also appeared in numerous Russian and foreign magazines, including the Poesia literary magazine published in Milan. He moved to Finland in January 2001 and currently lives in Kouvola. |
