Vladimir Neklyayev

Chairman of the Byelorussian Union of Writers, Vladimir Neklyayev (b. 1946) currently lives in Helsinki as a Safe City Program writer. He is one of the motive forces behind the opposition to President Lukashenka. The creator of ten anthologies of verse and more than 500 much-loved songs and poems, he has written numerous articles on the situation in Byelorussia and its language and culture. His debut collection Atkrite appeared in 1974. Neklyayev was awarded the Lenin Prize in 1988.
