Tibor Fischer

Tibor Fischer (born 1959) was born in Stockport to Hungarian parents. He studied Latin and French at Cambridge and today works as a journalist in London. His first novel, Under the Frog (1992), was a candidate for the Booker Prize in 1993. It is a combination of East European satire and cutting British humor. Its events take place during the dark phase of Hungarian history between 1944 and 1956. Later on Fischer has published short stories and two novels, which are both enlivened by linguistic ingenuity and 'encyclopedianess'. Fischer's works have been translated into e.g. German and French.
